Are dentures cheaper than implants?

Yes, dentures are generally much cheaper than implants, especially when considering the initial upfront cost. The costs for a full set of dentures range from 500 £ to 3,000 £ in the UK, depending on the materials and complexity. The artial dentures typically cost less, starting at around 250 £. A single implant costs between 1,500 £ and 3,000 £ in the UK.

These are the aspects that one should consider when it comes to the cost of dentures:

  • Some treatments combine different procedures. For example one can have a treatment with standard dental implants and zircon (all-ceramics) dental crowns or a treatment with premium dental implants and removable dentures.
  • Each case is individual. Therefore the costs of the following denture represent the average treatment process.
  • The cost of dentures does not cover either the cost of other treatments such as tooth extraction, or bone structure augmentation, or the costs of panoramic x-ray and of medication.
  • With the help of modern dental medicine a fixed dental denture can be applied in all cases. This is significantly more convenient and simpler for the patient.

How much does health insurance cover for dentures?

Unfall: Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to how much the NHS (National Health Service) will cover for dentures as it depends on a number of factors.
NHS denture cover:
– Band 3 treatment: Braces are part of the ‘Band 3’ treatment which currently costs £282.80. This includes all necessary procedures, including examinations, x-rays and fitting of dentures.
You may be entitled to free NHS dental treatment if you are: under 18, under 19 and in full-time education, pregnant or have had a baby in the last 12 months.

Important aspects:
– Waiting lists: There can be long waiting lists for NHS braces, depending on where you live and the availability of dentists.
The NHS primarily provides basic dentures. If you want a more advanced type, such as implants or flexible dentures, you will have to pay privately. In general, the NHS does not cover planned medical treatment abroad. With a dental treatment in Hungary, including travel, you can save up to 40-60% compared to Uk prices, with short waiting lists and professional doctors.

What is the cheapest fixed denture?

The cheapest fixed dentures are:

Clasp denture

A removable denture that is attached to the existing teeth with metal clasps. Advantages: Most affordable option for fixed dentures. Disadvantages: Can be less aesthetic than other options, the clasps can be visible. Can become loose over time and may need to be readjusted. Cost: Depends on the number of teeth being replaced, but usually less expensive than other options.

Dental bridge

A fixed prosthesis that attaches to adjacent teeth to fill a gap.
Advantages: More aesthetic than a clasp denture, provides good chewing function.
Disadvantages: Adjacent teeth must be ground down to attach the bridge.
Cost: More expensive than a clasp denture, but less expensive than implants.

Standard fixed denture (the fixed dental prosthesis)

Non-removable(=fixed) dentures, Dental crowns, dental bridge pillars or dental bridges are fixed on a certain number of dental implants. The number of dental implants depends on the number of teeth that need replacement. The size of the jaw (so the optimal chewing force distribution and stability) also determines the number of dental implants.
The following example contains an average number of implants in the case of the rehabilitation of a whole jaw. Whether the teeth replacement will be a dental denture, crown or bridge depends on the number of teeth to be replaced and on the preferences of the patient.

The following example of dentures cost contains standard dental implants (e.g. from the manufacturer SGS) and metallic-ceramic dental crowns.

All-on-4 treatment concept

All-On-4 dental implants are designed to replace an entire arch of teeth with only four dental implants. Due to the surgical technique used, no bone graft is required. This is because the two posterior implants are placed 45 degrees in the jawbone to make the most of the bone supply. For the healing period, the patient receives a temporary denture. After the healing period, the final, screw-retained round bride, which sits stably on the four implants, is manufactured. This is then fixed onto the already exposed, with implant abutments fitted implants. The final replacement is very similar to natural teeth, both aesthetically and functionally.
